Dual nationality permissible under law: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the holding of dual nationality is no crime as per law and the Constitution of Pakistan. He said that the Pakistanis could acquire nationality of any of the 16 countries as the Constitution allowed them to do so. He said that if one’s loyalty was divided due to possession of dual nationality of any of the 16 countries, the Constitution of Pakistan should take note of this fact and remove the anomaly.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while addressing the media outside the Supreme Court Building. He said that the Constitution and law of Pakistan did not deprive any Pakistan of right to hold dual nationality.

In reply to a question, Dr Qadri said that it was Supreme Court’s right to ask any question in order to fulfill the demands of justice and fair play. He said that as per law, the dual national could not become member of Parliament but he had the right to vote. He said that he came to the Supreme Court as a citizen and a voter seeking re-composition of the Election Commission and for better future of the country. He said that the hundreds of thousands of oversees Pakistanis were dual national and the right to caste votes. In reply to another question, he said that he would accept the decision of the Supreme Court.
