Mere issuance of condemnatory statements not enough: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the leader of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, has said that continuation of terrorist incidents in Balochistan is very dangerous for national stability and integrity. He said that the historic residence of Pakistan’s founding father was burnt to ashes while we were content with issuance of condemnatory statements. He said that the nations that did not protect the national monuments and signs of their forefathers were not treated respectfully in the world. He said that Balochistan was part and parcel of Pakistan’s federation, adding that the sense of deprivation of the Baloch people would have to be removed for peace and stability in the restive province. He said that this would help bring an end to foreign interference in Pakistan’s internal matters.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while talking to Khurram Nawaz Gundapur telephonically from Canada. He said that the people of Balochistan had a right to enjoy the resources of their province, further saying that it was about time we moved towards real provincial autonomy as per demand of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that Pakistan Awami Tehreek believed in devolution of power to the federating units. He said that there was no harm in carving out 35 new provinces on administrative lines. He said that instead of offering any relief to masses, budget increased their woes. He said that re-imposition of tax on five-marla houses was not correct and hike in power tariff was equally burdensome for the poor.

Dr Qadri said that it appeared that the federal and provincial governments did not have any plan of action to stem the rising tide of dearness and inflation. He said that the Pakistani nation should understand that the root of all our problems was the corrupt and exploitative electoral system, adding that no improvement could be expected without replacing this system. He said that PAT would continue to struggle for the change in the system through democratic and peaceful means. He asked the PAT workers to accomplish the target of 10 million new members. He said that dream of real change would be realized only through promotion of awareness against the corrupt and obsolete electoral system.
